Our Scottish Red Squirrels need to increase their numbers and be protected against the advance of the grey squirrel, which were introduced into Britain from America in the late 19th century. Since their arrival, they have dominated the food share and are also known to spread a lethal disease to red squirrels. About three –quarters of the UK’s remaining red squirrels live in Scotland.
